Set up your laptop

Do this about a week before Day 1, on the laptop and the network you will bring. Three steps. Claude Code does the work.

    Install Claude Code and sign in

    Follow the install steps for your computer on the Claude Code install page. Then open a terminal, type claude, and sign in when your browser opens.

    Sign in with your organization's Claude account or your Anthropic Console account. The free Claude plan does not include Claude Code.

    Download the setup pack and let Claude run it

    Unzip it. Open a terminal in the unzipped bcdev-env-setup folder, type claude, and say: run setup.

    It takes 5 to 20 minutes and pauses twice, once for your Anthropic API key and once to sign in to the course portal. Have your key ready. Your Console admin gives it to you, or you make one at platform.claude.com. It starts with sk-ant-.

    No Claude Code on this laptop? Run python3 setup.py in that folder instead. On Windows, python setup.py.

    While it runs, read the SUMMIT briefing

    On Day 1 you join SUMMIT, an invented bank, as its new engineer. The briefing is the client, the people, and the problem you solve each day. Ten minutes. Read it now, so Day 1 starts on the work.

When it finishes

The report is env-report.md in your new bcdev folder. Send it to your hosts at the address in your welcome email, with your name and company in the subject. Send it even if some rows say FAIL.

Did a check fail?

Send the technical requirements page to your IT team, with the IT ticket from the end of your report. Do it today. IT tickets take days. Run setup again after the fix. If IT cannot unblock you before Day 1, tell your hosts now.
